Who Runs the ZAP Salmonella Monitoring Programme?
An industry steering group has been established to oversee the management of the ZAP programme. The steering group meets regularly to review the management of the scheme programme, allocation of ZAP status and what action should be taken by ZAP 1, ZAP 2 and ZAP 3 holdings. These decisions are then recommended to the Technical Advisory Committees (TACs) of the various assurance scheme bodies including ABPigs, GQA, Specially Selected Scotch (SSS) Farm Assurance and Processors and British Quality Assured Processors.
The steering group is chaired by James Wyllie, pig producer, and includes representatives of the following industry bodies:
- British Pig Executive
- Meat and Livestock Commission
- National Pig Association
- British Meat Processors Association
- Pig Veterinary Society
- Food Standards Agency
- Department for the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs
- Assured British Pigs
- Genesis Quality Assurance
- Quality Meat Scotland
- Consumer representative
